House Speaker Johnson Endorses Trump

(ConservativeSense.com) – During an appearance on CNBC on Tuesday, recently-elected Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson of Lousiana reiterated his endorsement of former President Donald Trump as the GOP nominee in the 2024 presidential election.

Johnson appeared on the show “Squawk Box” on Tuesday and stated that he “endorsed” Trump “wholeheartedly” for president in 2024.

The Speaker said he’s been “one of the closest allies” of Trump in Congress and that the former president’s first term was “phenomenal.” Johnson noted that in Trump’s first two years, the country saw “the greatest economic numbers in the world” because the policies of the Trump administration “worked.”

He added that he’s “all-in for Trump” and expects that he will be the Republican nominee and “win it.” Johnson also said that the GOP “has to make” President Joe Biden “a one-term president.”

Johnson took up the gavel as Speaker of the House last month after a coalition of Republicans unified with a few Democrats to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California. McCarthy himself was a longtime ally of Trump, becoming one of the first lawmakers to publicly support the former president following the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, stopping short of throwing his lot in with Trump for his third bid for the White House.

Before settling on Johnson, a few other candidates were being considered for the role, specifically Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, who was endorsed by the Freedom Caucus. Ultimately, Jordan failed to secure the nomination for Speaker.

The Speaker recently received some backlash from his fellow party members after expressing doubts about whether or not Biden should be impeached. Despite these remarks, Johnson maintains the inquiry into Biden has “his full and unwavering support.”

Trump remains the GOP frontrunner, polling leagues ahead of his competitors, including the second-runner-up, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who’s been campaigning heavily to push his numbers up. Behind him, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy are battling it out for third place.
