(ConservativeSense.com) – About one out of four Democrats do not plan on voting for party leader President Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election, according to a recent poll.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,698 registered Democrat voters and found that nearly a quarter of them aren’t planning to vote for Biden in November’s election. Respondents were surveyed between March 7 and March 13. The poll surveyed 4,094 adult American respondents.
Biden and former President Donald Trump both secured their respective party nominations last month by winning the necessary number of delegates, setting the stage for the anticipated rematch between the two candidates. Several polls have come out since then predicting how the general election will turn out. Some of those polls show Biden winning, and others show Trump as the victor. Both of them are close and most polls seem to indicate the two candidates are neck and neck in the race.
The recent Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates Biden may need to work harder at courting his own voter base before November, considering 24% said they did not plan on voting for the Democratic nominee.
One of the main issues pushing Democrats away from Biden is the president’s milquetoast response to the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Most blue voters lean pro-Palestinian and support a cease-fire in the conflict, something they feel Biden has not done enough to make happen. Thirteen percent of those who responded that they would not vote for Biden also felt Israel’s military response in the Gaza Strip has gone too far, while 12% felt it wasn’t excessive.
Overall, Ipsos found that 34% of all voters surveyed would vote for Biden, while Trump came in ahead with 36% support. Biden was ahead in registered voters, though, with 39% to Trump’s 38%. Unless something happens to break the tie, polls indicate a close race is ahead.
Besides the Israel/Hamas war, some of the other deciding issues for voters in November include the southern border immigration crisis, the cost of living, inflation, and abortion.
