GOP Rep. Stefanik Sues N.Y. AG James for ‘Biased’ Case

(ConservativeSense.com) – New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik has filed a complaint against the Empire State’s Attorney General Letitia James, accusing her of attacking Donald Trump and exercising biased judgment. Stefanik, a Trump loyalist, requested that the Attorney Grievance Committee launch an investigation into the Attorney General’s behavior and her motivations in filing a civil case against the former President.

“I have found New York Attorney General Letitia James’ handling of the investigation and trial of President Donald Trump nothing short of shameful,” Stefanik said. The Republican cites more than 50 public comments made by the prosecutor during the course of the proceedings against Trump and said James’ conduct undermines the integrity of the legal process and violates the Rules of Professional Conduct that lawyers are obliged to adhere to.

Donald Trump has also accused James of bias and described her as completely incompetent. He said she brought a case against him solely for political purposes, adding that her election campaign was focused on her promise “I will get Trump.” The former President has repeatedly said he has no case to answer in New York and the proceedings against him should be dropped. “She should probably be dismissed also because she’s terrible,” Mr. Trump said.

The New York Attorney General is taking Trump to a civil trial on accusations of fraud for misrepresenting the value of his vast real estate empire in the state. If James is successful, it would be a significant blow for Trump and his businesses in New York, and he faces a fine as high as $379 million.

Trump’s two sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, as well as the Trump Organization, are co-defendants in the case, are also accused of fraud, and face the prospect of a ban on conducting business in New York.

Judge Arthur Engoron has already ruled that Trump overestimated his wealth by millions of dollars, including the valuation of his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, which the judge said he inflated by 2,300%.
