Elderly Man Faces Murder Charges After Stabbing Wife Over Pancakes

(ConservativeSense.com) – On Dec. 14, Steven Schwartz, 85, was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife in the back following an argument over pancakes.

Metropolitan Police Department officers went to Schwartz’s home in Washington, D.C., which was located in the area of Corcoran Street, Northwest, around 3:40 p.m. Dec. 10, after receiving reports of a stabbing. According to a Metropolitan Police Department report, officers found an injured woman and a man suffering from self-inflicted injuries inside the home. The woman and man were both transported to a local hospital, where the woman died from her injuries.

The woman was identified as Sharron Schwartz, 81, who had been married to Steven Schwartz for 40 years.

According to a police affidavit, Schwartz stated he has an aversion to food, and his wife was trying to make him eat the pancakes, which led to an argument. He also told the police that he suffers from depression and a condition called eating diversion. Schwartz stated he stabbed his wife in the back because he “did not want to eat the pancakes” she had made, according to a report published by U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves.

Schwartz told police he loved his wife and expressed regret over the incident, adding that he had prayed the killing was a delusion. He stated that he wished he had died instead of her, according to court documents. At the time of the incident, Schwartz was recovering from a stroke, according to the court document.

He was arrested on December 14 following an investigation into the incident. Schwartz pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder while armed at his arraignment at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Superior Court Judge Sherry Trafford ruled a probable cause existed that linked Schwartz to his wife’s murder. He is being held without bail until his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Jan. 2.
