(ConservativeSense.com) – Rep. Andre Carson (D-ID) was one of ten Democrats to vote against a resolution condemning Hamas for its October 7th surprise attack in Israel, where 1,400 Israeli citizens were killed and some 200 people, including some Americans, were taken hostage.
Fox News writers are suggesting Carson engaged in “anti-Israel activism” in the past and called his behavior controversial. Carson called Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) a “punk,” “coward,” and “gangster” for criticizing Carson and others who refused to pass the resolution condemning Hamas. Gottheimer had referred to the group as “despicable” for opposing the resolution.
Fox News Digital was quick to offer a review of Carson’s past positions on Israel and suggested he had “anti-Israel positions.”
They decried his 2015 meeting with Louis Farrakhan and a 2018 quote where he refused to rule out future meetings. Farrakhan is a notorious antisemite who has referred to Jews as “termites” and has spoken positively about Adolf Hitler.
Carson opposed the U.S. recognition of the Israeli capital switch from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in 2017. In 2019, they pointed out how he went to bat for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI) after she was accused of antisemitism by Republicans.
Carson also voted against a 2021 weapons deal to sell arms to Israel and, in that same year, voted against additional funding for Israel’s Iron Dome.
He also voted against a resolution condemning antisemitism in July.
Carson vehemently decried Hamas’s “heinous attacks on civilians” and called for the release of all hostages immediately in a prepared statement. He suggested that the reason he voted against the resolution condemning Hamas was because it ignored civilian deaths on both sides of the conflict. He said that the resolution was harmful and inspired further division, and he called it “horribly one-sided.”
Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the only Republican to vote against the resolution, and he said he had similar concerns that it could worsen the fighting already underway.
