(ConservativeSense.com) – Nine women were shot in a single incident in crime-riddled Chicago as the city continues to spiral into lawlessness under left-wing Mayor Brandon Johnson. At around 1 a.m. on July 29, a black Jeep pulled up outside a residence in the 1500 block of South Keeler Avenue in the city’s North Lawndale neighborhood. A birthday party was underway when men jumped out of the Jeep and opened fire. Eight women were wounded, and 21-year-old Kanesha Gaines was killed.
A local community activist said, “With all these women being shot, something has to be personal. Why would you just unload on a yard, a house full of women that were here on the outside celebrating someone’s birthday?”
The partygoers are among 342 people shot in the Windy City this year. Meanwhile, left-wing political activists pressure Mayor Brandon Johnson to reduce law enforcement capabilities. Johnson, who ran a race-based campaign against the only white candidate, Paul Vallas, in the election earlier this year, has supported Black Lives Matter (BLM) demands to defund police and promised to end ShotSpotter, a decades-old system used by law enforcement to detect gunshots in high-crime areas.
Since he entered office in May, replacing equally left-wing Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Johnson has focused on pushing hard-left policies through City Hall. While the city faces a crime explosion and increased homelessness, particularly among the young, Johnson allocated $51 million to housing migrants newly arriving from the southern border.
In a June council meeting, a shouting match broke out between those who want to support illegal immigrants and those who think money is better spent improving the lives of Chicago’s residents. Even BLM activist Caroline Ruff opposed funding for immigrants. “I encourage the alderman to please vote it down because, number one, we have not opened up the schools for our homeless; we see them in the streets every day, and I make sure that the homeless are fed with clothing,” Ruff said.
