(ConservativeSense.com) – Climate activist Greta Thunberg was roasted on Twitter when her prediction that the world would end on June 21, 2023, turned out to be false. She posted a tweet on that date in 2018 saying human life on Earth would end within five years if immediate action were not taken to end the world’s dependence on fossil fuels.
“A top scientist is warning that climate change will wipe out all of humanity unless we stop using fossil fuels over the next five years,” the tweet read. It has since been deleted.
Twitter users piled on the 20-year-old Swede’s account to remind her that similar apocalyptic prophecies have been made in the past, and each and every one has turned out to be bogus. One user told Ms. Thunberg that the world has survived thanks largely to fossil fuels, while another said she found it amusing that Thunberg waited until January 2023 to delete the warning of doom.
Thunberg’s dire prediction is one of many that climate activists have made over the years. Former Vice President Al Gore agreed with climatologist Dr. Wieslav Maslowski, who said there was a 75% chance the entirety of the north pole’s ice caps would melt by around 2017. He later revised that figure upward to between 50 and 70 years. On a separate occasion, Gore warned that the world could end by 2016. A Daily Mail report in January claims Mr. Gore has made more than $300 million from his climate change initiatives.
It is less likely, however, that finances are prompting Thunberg to believe the world is in peril. She is known to have suffered from severe anxiety and depression since childhood and has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. According to her father, much of her anxiety began when she learned at school that climate change was going to bring about the end of humanity. Svante Thunberg said his daughter is much happier since she started to engage in climate activism.
