14 Dems Join GOP Resolution, Against Biden on Border Issues

(ConservativeSense.com) – Fourteen House Democrats joined with their Republican colleagues to pass a resolution condemning the immigration policies of President Joe Biden and his administration.

The non-binding resolution, which was passed by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, March, 12, specifically blasts the president for refusing to use his authority to enact executive actions that would secure the border. It also condemned Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his role in the crisis and failing to properly enforce immigration law.

The resolution passed the House in a 226-193 vote, with 14 Democratic representatives siding with the House GOP on the official rebuke of Biden. It was introduced by Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz of Texas on March 7, the same day Biden delivered his State of the Union address. She also delivered a rebuttal in Spanish to the president’s speech on behalf of Republicans.

This is the second resolution condemning the border crisis passed by the GOP this year with support from across the aisle. Another was passed on Jan. 17 denouncing the “open-borders policies” of the Biden administration in a 225-187 vote, with 14 Democrats supporting it.

In a statement on the resolution, De La Cruz said it is meant to underscore an “urgent need” for the current administration to “take decisive action to address” the border crisis. She added that those who voted in favor of the resolution want the Biden administration to “immediately” use executive authority “to regain control of the situation” as well as to “protect the interests of the American people.”

On the same day, one of the 14 House Democrats who voted in favor of the resolution, Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas, also launched the Democrats for Border Security Task Force, an advisory group gathered to propose solutions. Cuellar was also among the 14 Democrats who voted in favor of the Jan. 17 resolution condemning the administration’s handling of the border.

Cuellar told reporters after the latest resolution that more Democrats need to start talking about stronger border security while remaining “respectful of immigrants’ rights.”
