(ConservativeSense.com) – Donald Trump lashed out furiously at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during a speech in Iowa. He delivered the remarks only days after DeSantis had visited the state. The former President said the Floridian is a “disciple” of Paul Ryan, the former House Speaker, whom he labeled a “loser” and a “RINO” (Republican in Name Only). A Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll recently showed that Trump is losing support in the state – 47% said they would vote for him, which is a 22-point decrease from June 2021.
While denouncing DeSantis however, Trump appears to be echoing some of his policies, particularly involving education. He said he would remove “woke” from schools and colleges, which DeSantis has already done in Florida. Mr. Trump routinely takes credit for DeSantis’s position as Governor of Florida and said he now regrets giving him his backing. “I like people that are loyal. This guy was dead. He was dead as a doornail. Yeah, I might. I might say that. I always got along great with him when he was governor. I did a lot of good things for Florida,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis is quietly making his way around the country and winning more and more support. He has not responded to Trump’s comments. Republicans in Alabama set a new fundraising record recently when they held a dinner featuring DeSantis as a guest speaker. More than 1,700 people attended the dinner which raised $170,000. Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said it was a positive move by DeSantis and said the Governor will be a central figure in the Republican party for years to come.
While DeSantis has not yet confirmed if he intends to run for the White House, he has been visiting key and early-voting states. He rejected the notion that his trip to Iowa was part of a Presidential bid. He is however scheduled to headline another dinner and fundraising event in New Hampshire soon.
