Clinton Compares Zelenskyy to Churchill

(ConservativeSense.com) – Former Presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has compared Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Winston Churchill following his speech to both Houses of Congress on December 21st. Drawing parallels with the allied war against Nazi Germany, she said, “Their cause is our cause.”

The UK Prime Minister at the time of the Second World War, Churchill likewise traveled to the United States to cement a warm relationship between the countries and to solidify their joint opposition to Hitler’s war machine.

Dressed in his trademark green combat pants and sweater, Zelensky stressed that his country’s war against Russia was also America’s war. He added that America’s support thus far was appreciated but not enough. “Your support is crucial. Not just to stand in such fight but to get to the turning point to win on the battlefield. We have artillery, yes. Thank you. We have it. Is it enough? Honestly, not really,” he said.

His remarks may have further divided Congress. Some members remained seated during standing ovations and others did not rise when Zelensky entered the chamber. A row is brewing over how much funding the US has committed to providing to Ukraine’s war effort. Some Republicans have said there should be no more blank checks for the eastern European country. The US has so far given around $60 billion and committed to another $45 billion next year.

In a highly symbolic moment, Zelensky exchanged flags with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and said that his had been signed by troops in the city of Bakhmut. The troops had asked him to take the flag to Congress as a gift from them. Pelosi responded to the gesture by handing the President the American flag that had flown over Congress that day. Zelensky closed his speech to rapturous applause. “Merry Christmas and happy victorious new year,” he said.
