(ConservativeSense.com) – A Congressional committee hearing quickly devolved into shouting matches and personal insults after a Republican representative mocked a Democrat congresswoman for her appearance.
The chaos began with Republican Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor-Greene repeatedly interrupting Democratic Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin, who was chiding GOP members for attending former president Donald Trump’s business fraud trial in New York. According to Raskin, who is also a ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, absences by GOP members in the committee caused delays in committee hearings. The committee is currently looking into a recommendation that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland be held in contempt after failing to heed a congressional subpoena.
Greene’s behavior did not sit well with other Democrat lawmakers in attendance, who were not shy in making their displeasure known. The outspoken congresswoman often got into headed verbal exchanges with other legislators – in one of her comments, Greene asked Democrats if any of them “employing” the daughter of Justice Juan Merchan, the presiding magistrate in Trump’s “hush money” trial in Manhattan.
In response, Democratic Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett said “What does that have to do with Garland?”, adding, “Do you know what we’re here for?”
“I don’t think you know what we’re here for,” Greene shot back. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up your reading.”
Greene also had an exchange with Democratic New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, who moved that Greene’s comments be stricken from the record.

It was at this point that Republican Kentucky Representative James Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, called for order, describing Greene’s antics and speech as “un-decorous”. House debate rules stipulate that ad hominem attacks, or attacks against another’s personality, are prohibited.
Greene eventually agreed that her statements be struck from the record, but refused to apologize.
Crockett fired her own insult back moments later, implying that Greene had a “bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body.”
Greene later commented that she thinks her “body is pretty good” for someone who is a month away from turning 50.
