(ConservativeSense.com) – As the next presidential election inches closer, two of the demographic groups that will help determine the winner are black and LGBT Americans. Influencer Amir Odom is just one example of the changing views amongst those voters, and he falls into both categories.
Odom is a black, gay man who started politically as a liberal and eventually changed his views towards more conservative values. Since doing so, Odom has faced backlash from those who still champion the leftwing ideologies he once supported.
Fox News Digital published an interview with Odom on Monday, June 24, in which the influencer said he originally followed a script that made him believe “all Republicans were racist and homophobic” because he thought that was what he was supposed to do. The former liberal said he felt that because he was black, he “had to believe it” and had to stand with the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest movement.
BLM saw a huge resurgence in May 2020 after the death of George Floyd, resulting in protests and riots across the country. The organization was later revealed to have misused donations and also contributed to a lawless atmosphere as police demoralization rose and law enforcement ranks diminished. This is one of the factors which changed Odom’s views.
Odom said he also thought that because he is gay, he had to vote Democrat and support all causes associated with LGBTQ ideology before realizing “that wasn’t the truth.” Odom admitted that he was “regurgitating headlines” and the thoughts of others rather than making up his own mind about issues. Within a year, he went from marching with left-wing activists to shaking hands with then-President Donald Trump at the White House.
Another topic Odom speaks about often is “the trans topic.” Odom condemned the political left for pushing transgenderism onto children. “I can’t defend that,” the influencer said.
Since changing his views and speaking out, Odom has amassed over 240,000 YouTube subscribers and 200,000 followers on Instagram. He represents a larger demographic of disaffected progressives walking away from the Democratic Party and reconsidering where they stand on various issues facing the nation. Their growing voice will surely manifest in the ballot box come November.
