(ConservativeSense.com) – The White House has remained silent following complaints that an official called for an end to the “occupation of Palestine” on social media in 2014. An old tweet from Tyler Cherry, the Department of the Interior’s principal deputy communications director and senior spokesperson, resurfaced following the devastating attack on Israel on October 7, and in it he declared his allegiance with the Palestinians “cause” and stated his support for Gaza.
Cherry posted the tweet in 2014, when war broke out following a series of rocket attacks on Israel by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. After being hit by more than 700 missiles, Israel launched a ground offensive to destroy a complex network of tunnels underneath the Gaza Strip that Hamas uses as a hiding place and a missile launch pad. In the wake of the latest and deadliest attack, Israel is again bombarding the area, and its troops await orders to mount a ground invasion.
President Biden, however, said Israeli forces should not retake control of Gaza. Israel withdrew from the region in 2005 but retained control of the border and the skies to maintain its security. During an interview with 60 Minutes host Scott Pelley, the president said, “Hamas and the extreme elements of Hamas don’t represent all the Palestinian people. And I think it would be a mistake for Israel to occupy Gaza again.”
While most politicians condemned the atrocity on October 7, some left-wing Democrats, such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib, have repeated the accusation that Israel is responsible for the conflict by maintaining an “occupation” in Gaza. In response, New York Democrat Ritchie Torres lashed out at his colleagues and said people are “brainwashed” with anti-Israel rhetoric.
Mr. Torres said he was outraged at the display of a swastika at an anti-Israel rally in Times Square organized by the Democratic Socialists of America. “This is a moral monstrosity made in America, and one that America must unmake,” he said.
