Washington Becomes 10th U.S. State To Do This!

(ConservativeSense.com) – Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill on Tuesday banning the sale, manufacture, and importation of so-called “assault weapons” in the state, including the infamous AR-15.

The signing of House Bill 1240 means Washington is among 10 states to ban the sale of assault weapons. The gun control package was pushed by Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson.

In reference to the bill, Inslee said on Twitter that “we’re standing on the right side of history by taking action on gun violence to improve health, safety, and lives of Washingtonians.” The new legislation doesn’t outright ban the possession of all assault weapons and will make exceptions for cases of inheritance as well as law enforcement and military service members, who are still allowed to own them.

The governor said on Tuesday that “no one needs an AR-15 to protect your family” but only “to kill other families.”

Another recent bill passed by lawmakers, which takes effect on January 1, 2024, will make it mandatory to undergo safety training as well as a 10-day waiting period before being able to purchase a gun. They also passed a bill requiring manufacturers and dealers to take “reasonable steps” in order to prevent “dangerous individuals” from obtaining their products.

Meanwhile, as states like Washington crack down harder on firearms, other states are lightening restrictions, such as Florida where Gov. Ron DeSantis recently signed constitutional carry (concealed carry without a permit) into law.

And the same day Inslee signed off on banning assault weapons in Washington, Gov. Jim Pillen signed constitutional carry into law in Nebraska, making it the 27th state to allow permitless concealed carry of handguns.

“Signing this bill upholds the promise I made to voters to protect our constitutional rights and promote commonsense, conservative values,” said Pillen. The law is scheduled to take effect on June 9 after which eligible residents of Nebraska will be allowed to carry concealed firearms without paying for a government permit, including in their vehicles.
