(ConservativeSense.com) – Russia has accused the United States of attempting to assassinate President Vladimir Putin. Dimitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, told reporters that America should be aware that Russia knows Ukraine is merely acting on American orders, and the war is essentially one between the US and Russia.
On May 3rd, video footage was released by Russian officials showing troops shooting a drone out of the sky directly over the famous Kremlin building in Moscow. Russia said the incident was an attempt to assassinate Putin, who was not in the building at the time. Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Russian Duma, called the incident a “terrorist attack” and compared the Ukrainian government to Al-Qaeda and the Nazis.
Some political figures in the Kremlin called for an immediate retaliation against Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine.
Officials also applied a no-drone rule across the Russian capital.
The following day, on May 4th, a second drone was destroyed in the skies over the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. A spokesman for Ukraine said its troops had shot the device down. He described it as a TV drone that malfunctioned and flew aimlessly over Kyiv for around twenty minutes.
Both the US and Ukraine deny any involvement in the Moscow incident. “I can assure you that there was no involvement by the United States in this,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby said.
The Russian allegations that Ukraine is taking orders from America reflect criticisms made by former President Donald Trump, who has also described the conflict as a proxy war. Trump said the situation is disastrous. He added that he “got along great” with Putin when he was in the White House and will immediately end the war if he is re-elected to the Oval Office in 2024.
The conflict began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Western powers, including the United States and most of Europe, support the Ukrainians and condemn the Kremlin.
