Trump’s Former Ally Turns Foe – Pence Speaks Out

(ConserativeSense.com) – Former Vice President Mike Pence has criticized his old boss, former President Donald Trump, before, but on Tuesday he gave remarks condemning Trump more than he ever has before following the announcement of a third indictment of Trump related to the events of January 6, 2021.

In a statement, Pence said the indictment on Tuesday is “an important reminder” that someone who prioritizes themselves “over the Constitution” should never be president. He said the country itself “is more important than one man” and the constitution “more important than one man’s career.” Pence accused Trump of demanding that he “choose” between Trump “and the Constitution.” He said that he “chose” the latter and “always will.”

Pence made his comments after the news broke, but he will have more to say after he reads the indictment. He made a second point, though, that the development will result in “more talk about January 6th and more distractions.” The former vice president said Trump’s candidacy is only taking attention away from “Joe Biden’s disastrous economic policies” that are hurting millions of Americans and “the pattern of corruption” with Hunter Biden.

As detailed in the indictment, Pence was pulled into an alleged plot by Trump to stay in the White House, resulting in an attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters on Jan. 6 to interrupt the officiating of President Biden’s victory.

The indictment claims Pence was “directly pressured” by Trump “to use his ceremonial role” at the proceeding to certify the election to overturn the results, which Pence resisted. Several examples are cited in which Trump allegedly tried to influence Pence to overturn the election.

Pence is currently running against Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination to battle it out for the White House. In his statement, he promised that he would restore integrity to the presidency.
