(ConservativeSense.com) – The widow of the former fire chief slain during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump reportedly refused to speak with President Joe Biden because she says her husband’s Republican beliefs and dislike for the president.
On Saturday, July 13, Trump survived an assassination attempt during which eight rounds were fired at him. One of those rounds struck Corey Comperatore, a retired fire chief who attended the rally to see the former president speak and was sitting behind him when the shooter began firing. Trump expressed condolences to the family of Comperatore, and as is expected of him, the president also reached out to express condolences, but the slain man’s widow had no interest in speaking with Biden.
Helen Comperatore told reporters that Biden reached out to her after her husband’s death, but that she “didn’t talk” to him because she “didn’t want to” and because Comperatore wouldn’t have wanted her to. According to Helen, he was “a devout Republican.” She said she does not personally hold “any ill will towards” Biden and that she normally stays out of being involved in politics.
The former fire chief’s daughter, Allyson, described the events in a post following her father’s death and said he threw her and her mother “to the ground” and blocked the gunfire with his body. She described him as “the best father a girl could ask for.”
A wave of support for the family and for Trump poured in after the incident, with many prominent lawmakers from both parties making statements condemning the assassination attempt and the use of political violence in America. Several notable people also announced their official endorsements of Trump, including SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who called him “tough.”
Helen adamantly told the reporters that she supports Trump and that is who she is voting for. She reiterated that she has no “ill will” towards the president, who did nothing “bad” to her husband. She described the person responsible, later identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, as a “20-year-old despicable kid.”
