(ConservativeSense.com) – Donald Trump’s campaign is unphased by growing attacks from within the GOP, according to the latest polls. The former President remains the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination as his numbers stay consistently high. He is polling far ahead of his nearest competitor, Ron DeSantis, beating him by around 30% in almost all surveys.
A YouGov poll for the Economist in July saw Trump at 49%, with DeSantis trailing far behind at 20%. However, the Florida Governor is increasing his attacks on Trump while other big names in the GOP join in.
DeSantis is focusing the early part of his campaign on immigration and is hinting that he will do what Trump promised to do but failed to do. During a visit to Texas in June, the Floridian Governor said, “For decades, leaders from both parties have produced empty promises on border security.” He added that he will declare a state of emergency on his first day in the White House and “will not rest until we build the wall.”
Other GOP candidates vary in their approach to Mr. Trump. Chris Christie, the former Governor of New Jersey, launched the fiercest attack on the former president, saying he is unfit for office and a “three-time loser.” Christie blames Trump for Republican losses in 2018, 2020, and 2022.
Former Vice President Mike Pence accused his ex-boss of abandoning conservative values and betraying the Constitution. During an Iowa speech, Pence said Trump was responsible for the Capitol Hill riot on January 6.
The remaining contenders are taking a cautious approach to Mr. Trump. Nikki Haley emphasizes the need for a new generation of leaders, hinting that Trump has had his day. Vivek Ramaswamy also wants people to move on from the former President but is committed to continuing some of his policies. He describes himself as pro-MAGA. Ramaswamy recently called upon Republican candidates to commit to pardoning Donald Trump in the many legal battles he faces.
Trump’s lead remains undeniable despite his variety of legal woes.
