(ConservativeSense.com) – Now that Title 42 is ended and the border crisis continues to impact the U.S. as the administration of President Joe Biden seems asleep at the wheel, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is stepping up to the plate himself by rallying state law enforcement to Texas.
DeSantis announced on Tuesday that he will be arranging the deployment of 1,100 members of Florida law enforcement to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas, including around 800 soldiers from the National Guard, highway troopers, and equipment such as boats, drones, and aircraft.
Title 42, which recently ended, was a policy set into place during the end of Donald Trump’s presidency to quickly expel migrants in response to the 2020 pandemic as an attempt to slow the spread of the virus. Republicans have tried to convince the Biden administration to extend the policy, raising concerns that a massive surge of migrant encounters at the border would follow its ending.
In order to mitigate the pressure on border towns in Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott has been bussing migrants out of his state and into other states and major cities, such as New York City, which is feeling the impact of the border crisis. NYC Mayor Eric Adams keeps petitioning the federal government for assistance, claiming the White House is turning its back on America’s largest city.
DeSantis said that the impacts of the Biden administration’s policies “are felt by communities across the nation” and accused the federal government of abdicating its duty, undermining “the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law.”
This latest move by DeSantis to personally help with the situation in Texas will play positively into his reputation among Republicans. Although he still hasn’t officially launched a campaign for the 2024 presidential election, it’s obvious that DeSantis is heading in that direction to challenge Trump for the GOP nomination.
