(ConservativeSense.com) – Republican presidential candidate Tim Scott criticized mainstream news outlets and members of the so-called Squad for unquestioningly repeating Hamas propaganda about the explosion at the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City last Tuesday, Fox News reported.
Multiple news outlets, including the New York Times, Reuters, and the Associated Press, also reported the false claims from Hamas.
Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, along with fellow Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, were among those who repeated the claim that the explosion outside of the hospital was from an Israeli airstrike and that over 500 people were killed.
In a post on X, Tlaib claimed Israel “just bombed the Baptist Hospital, killing 500 Palestinians” and called out the Biden administration for failing to “facilitate a ceasefire.”
Ilhan Omar, meanwhile, quote-posted the report from the Associated Press that repeated the claims from Hamas. She also blamed the IDF for the explosion and said “bombing a hospital” is “among the gravest of war crimes.”
Senator Scott told Fox News that it wasn’t surprising that the Squad fell for Hamas’ claims since they have become “an extension of the Hamas propaganda machine,” which he described as “disgraceful” and “costly.” He said spreading Hamas’ misinformation is not only “wrongheaded” but “deadly.”
After multiple sources, including US intelligence, confirmed that last Tuesday’s blast was due to a rocket fired from within Gaza, Ilhan Omar walked back her claim.
In a thread attacking her initial false claim, Omar explained that her office was responding to the report in the Associated Press and noted that the IDF has since denied that it was responsible. But rather than apologize, Rep. Omar reminded everyone that during the “fog of war,” “information is often unreliable and disputed.”
Omar called for a “fully independent investigation” to “conclusively” determine who committed “this war crime.”
While Ilhan Omar admitted her mistake, Rashida Tlaib doubled down.
While speaking at a pro-Hamas rally outside of the capital last Wednesday, Omar tearfully repeated the claims that Israel bombed the hospital and more than 500 people were killed.
According to the Jerusalem Post, multiple independent intelligence sources and European news sources placed the death toll from the explosion in the hospital parking lot at somewhere between 10 and 50.
