(ConservativeSense.com) – According to a memo recently obtained by news outlets, New York City may be preparing for the termination of Title 42 by closing down certain streets in order to temporarily shelter incoming migrants as shelter space runs out.
The memo suggests using foldable miniature homes (about 420 square feet) or shipping containers to provide shelter for the new migrants expected to flood into the city after Title 42 ends.
Title 42 was an emergency policy implemented at the end of former President Donald Trump’s administration in response to the pandemic in 2020, enabling migrants to be quickly sent back over the border after crossing illegally. Once the policy ends, a massive spike in migrants seeking asylum is expected at the border.
With border towns, such as El Paso, Texas, already overwhelmed by the current numbers, the surge will result in many more of these migrants being sent off to other states and cities. Over the last year, about 60,000 have entered NYC, stressing the city’s resources as it struggles to recover economically from the pandemic lockdowns.
Mayer Eric Adams recently announced a record-breaking budget to account for the migrant crisis, and he’s also continued to criticize President Joe Biden and the federal government for failing to assist with the situation, accusing the White House of abandoning NYC.
Governor Kathy Hochul also declared a state of emergency on Tuesday for the entire state of New York as NYC begins to bus migrants out of the city and into the suburbs. She also mobilized the National Guard to help manage the situation.
Mayor Eric Adams’ office did not confirm whether or not the city will carry through with the plan to close down streets to house the incoming migrants but did say that all options were being considered.
