Speaker Johnson Demands Federal Workers To Be Fired For Reportedly Planning Pro-Palestinian Walkout

(ConservativeSense.com) – Following reports that federal workers were planning to walk out on strike in solidarity with Palestinians and to protest against pro-Israeli foreign policy, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said they should be fired from their jobs.

The Republican Speaker from Louisiana suggested that the House of Representatives should help ensure that any employee who walks out of their job in protest will receive punishment. Johnson posted about the situation on Twitter on Sunday, Jan. 14, and stated that any government employee “who walks off the job” in protest of Israel will be guilty of “ignoring their responsibility” and “abusing” taxpayers’ trust, and deserves “to be fired.”

Johnson then promised that he and the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, would “be working together” to make sure that the “appropriate disciplinary proceedings” are carried out by “each federal agency” against government employees who walk out.

The House Speaker was responding to a report shared by senior Al-Monitor news editor Joyce Karam about a plan by hundreds of federal workers from at least 22 different agencies who pledged to take part in a widespread walkout on Tuesday, Jan. 16, over President Joe Biden’s policies regarding Israel and their military efforts in the Gaza Strip. The escalation in conflict began after the radical militant group Hamas launched a widespread attack on Israel on Oct. 7 last year, which killed an estimated 1,200 people. Since then, over 20,000 more have been killed by Israel in Gaza during their counteroffensive.

According to reports, the protest will be organized by a group called Feds United for Peace in opposition to the federal government’s handling of the Middle Eastern conflict. Calling for a “Day of Mourning,” the protest will mark the hundredth day of Israel’s military invasion of Gaza. The group describes itself as composed of “federal employees representing a range of federal agencies” who believe it is their “patriotic duty and moral imperative” to push for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.

The week prior marked an escalation in US participation in the region during the conflict after the US teamed up with the UK to spearhead an air attack in Yemen against Houthi rebels. The rebels have been interrupting trade in the Red Sea by targeting ships coming in and out of Israel.
