Some GOP Air Out Dems Over Trump Assassination Build-Up

(ConservativeSense.com) – While Donald Trump and Joe Biden called for national unity, some Republicans blamed Democrats for inciting the Trump assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. Rep. Mike Collins of Georgia, for instance, called on the Republican District Attorney in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the shooting occurred, to file charges against President Biden for inciting attempted murder.

Senator Rick Scott of Florida struck a similar tone and said Democrats had inflamed tensions by comparing the former President to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Scott said the shooting was not a random or unfortunate incident but the work of a “madman” radicalized by the political left.

Critics particularly noted remarks by President Biden days before the shooting, during which he stated that it was “time to put Trump in the bullseye.” The President reportedly made the remarks during a conference call with donors, prompting Rep. Collins to suggest that Biden had inadvertently given his blessing to the assassination attempt.

Similarly, Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn linked the President’s remarks to the Pennsylvania incident that left a bystander dead and two others injured. She also condemned Biden for waiting an hour before responding. When he did, the President called the incident “sick” and said political violence has no place in the United States.

Nevertheless, several Trump supporters went even further and accused the White House of orchestrating the attack, while some Democrats said it was “staged” by Donald Trump. Dmitri Mehlhorn, an adviser to Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman, apologized after it emerged he had encouraged journalists to publicly suggest Trump orchestrated the shooting so he could “benefit from the backlash.” Mehlhorn issued a public apology, saying, “We must unite in condemnation of such violence in every instance.”

President Biden has since denied the possibility that his remarks prompted the shooting. In an interview, the President said he cannot stay silent and not criticize his rival because someone may or may not commit violence. He insisted that Trump’s threat to democracy is real.
