Early Sunday morning, chaos erupted outside Bodega’s nightclub on Amarillo’s Polk Street. Around 2:00 a.m., shots were fired into a crowd, resulting in one death and eight injuries. The deceased victim, 25-year-old John Love Louima, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.

A Quick Response: Arrests Made
A quick-thinking civilian followed the suspects’ silver sedan and led officers to their location, and Amarillo Police Chief Martin Birkenfeld expressed his gratitude for them during a press conference on Monday. Police were able to Robert Kenney Knox, Nahryah Hilesta Ines Hayes, and Britt Brinson Cave. Knox and Hayes face charges of murder and “deadly conduct/discharge of a firearm,” while Cave is charged with public intoxication.
According to police, the violence stemmed from an earlier altercation inside the nightclub, reportedly related to flirting with women. Police indicated that the suspects initially left the establishment and then returned once it was closed. One of the suspects allegedly got out of the car and fired 15 shots before leaving.
The department is reportedly closely examining the evidence in the case, and they have access to both ballistics and the vehicle belonging to the suspects.
