Senators Promote Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants

( – A group of Senators has been touring the southern US border apparently seeking out bipartisan solutions to the problem of mass illegal migration. The proposals put forward however seem to suggest that allowing immigrants to come to the US legally is the only answer. Some of the Senators hinted that a total amnesty for border crossers should be included in any policy aimed at stemming the flow.

The group was led by Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Mark Kelly (D-AZ). They were joined by Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Jerry Moran (R-KS), James Lankford (R-OK), Chris Coons (D-DE), and Christ Murphy (D-CT). The Senators visited El Paso, the city besieged by illegal immigration and that was visited by President Biden in early January – after street-sleeping migrants had been moved on.

Meanwhile, the President met with the leaders of Mexico and Canada and said he would make it easier for people to enter the US. Calling the dire situation at the southern border “the greatest migration in human history,” Biden was silent on the problems such migration creates for Americans. New plans from the White House will allow 30,000 new immigrants from south of the border every month.

Residents of the city of El Paso have seen huge changes to their lives as 1,000s enter their city on a daily basis. In December, some inhabitants told reporters they were scared to go about their normal lives, with some reporting that migrants had entered their properties. One woman said she often sees migrants jumping fences onto her and her neighbor’s property. “They can hide in the bushes, by the bushes on the side of our house, and so I don’t even want my granddaughter to stay there,” she said.

El Paso declared a state of emergency late last year following the arrival of more than 1,600 migrants in a single day.
