Senator Demands Answers On Iran’s Nuclear Activity

( – Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is demanding answers about Iran’s nuclear activity and calling for America to crack down on the Islamic nation for playing a role in helping Hamas attack Israel this month.

In the letter, Rubio and multiple co-signers, such as Republican Sens. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Joni Ernst of Iowa, and Bliss Cassidy of Louisiana, called for a heavier response against Iran for allegedly assisting Hamas in their attack on Israel. They also called for the release of information about the investigation into Iran by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The senators lambasted the fact that little progress was made on resolving important questions about the Iranian nuclear program during a meeting in September of the IAEA Board of Governors. The agency has been conducting an inquiry over the last few years into the undisclosed materials for building atomic weapons and the Amad Plan, a secret Iranian initiative to create nuclear weapons in 2003.

Rubio said that Iran needs to be held accountable “now more than ever” for failing “to comply with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.” The treaty, which dates back to 1970, was established to try and stop the spread of atomic weapons and nuclear technology.

Rubio said that despite the repeated attempts by the IAEA to access many regions in Iran, they were not “able to determine” if the country had retained any hidden weapons or activities to build them. The senator then called out the Biden administration for failing “to press for concrete action” against the Middle Eastern nation in Vienna and “leading efforts” opposing censuring Iran.

After the attack on Israel, Ghazi Hamad, a spokesman for Hamas, told a BBC reporter that Iran supported their efforts in the attack earlier this month, and other reports claim Hezbollah also helped the Iranian government plan the attack with Hamas. Thousands have died in the ensuing conflict since.
