Schumer Allegedly Scheming to Ditch Support for Biden

(ConservativeSense.com) – With President Joe Biden’s refusal to drop out of the race despite his tanking popularity and rising questions about his capacity to lead, Democrat leadership in Congress has formed ranks behind the president, although it seems the panic remains behind closed doors where some of their opinions are reportedly diametric to their public positions. One of those whose support for Biden is wavering is Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.

According to a report on Wednesday, July 10, Schumer is considering withdrawing his support from the president following Biden’s shaky first debate performance and the wave of criticism that followed about his mental acuity and physical endurance.

The Democratic leader has started to signal to major party donors that he was willing to get behind a ticket excluding Biden. Schumer is considered one of three party members who could potentially convince the president to step aside, the other being former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi is already indicating her waning support for Biden and said during a recent MSNBC appearance that it was up to Biden himself to “decide if he is going to run,” dodging a question about whether or not she still supported his candidacy.

Ever since Biden’s performance on the debate stage against Trump on June 27, members of his base began rapidly throwing him under the bus. The contrast between the two candidates was apparent and the CNN commentators immediately started suggesting he step down. The next day, Biden refused to withdraw from the race and began a damage control media tour, including a long-form interview to prove he could still speak under pressure.

If Schumer withdraws support, even some of Biden’s more hardline supporters may likely follow suit, especially as major donors are also pulling away. Actor George Clooney recently wrote an op-ed calling on Biden to step aside, and major Democratic donor Bill Ackman just endorsed Trump following the recent assassination attempt on his life in Pennsylvania.
