PAC Now Forming To Push DeSantis Nomination in 2024

( – Republican Governor Ron DeSantis won re-election in Florida by a landslide, stomping Democratic challenger Charlie Crist by nearly 20 percentage points. It was a resounding victory, especially when compared with the lukewarm performance of many candidates endorsed by former President Donald Trump in the midterm elections. As a result, a new political action committee (PAC) is launching to encourage DeSantis to run for president in 2024.

California political strategist and sometimes CNN political commentator John Thomas is organizing the “Ron to the Rescue” super PAC because he calls DeSantis the “future” of the GOP.

Admittedly, Thomas has shifted strategies regarding the Florida governor. Before the midterms, especially on the heels of the FBI Mar-a-Lago search, the pundit felt strongly that DeSantis should wait until 2028 to make a run for the presidency. Still, based on midterm performances, Thomas believes now is exactly the right time for the popular Florida politician to announce his presidential run and begin consolidating support.

Thomas admits a Trump rivalry will cause divisions in the GOP and could become messy, but said, “the time has come to pass the gavel, and it’s very clear that DeSantis is the one who can win.” The political commentator said the governor scores better with suburban, college-educated, Latino, and other critical groups than the former president, potentially giving him a winning edge.

Although DeSantis hasn’t yet committed to a run for the presidency, Thomas believes launching the super PAC will show Republican voters why the Florida governor would be an ideal GOP presidential candidate, allowing them to commit resources. The PAC organizer plans to announce a list of donors before Thanksgiving with a budget in the millions. The super PAC will conduct fund-raising, polls, surveys, and media management until DeSantis officially announces a campaign, hopefully in January 2023.
