RNC Chairs Doubles Down On ‘Positive’ Convention Vibe

(ConservativeSense.com) – The chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) said the upcoming convention will see the GOP roll out a vision for the country that is “overwhelmingly positive.”

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley appeared on NewsNation on Sunday, June 30, and was asked by editor Chris Stirewalt what the media should expect to see at the event this month. Whatley replied that the party would have a “fantastic convention.”

The chairman said the RNC is “very excited about it” and that 50,000 guests, RNC members, delegates, and media personnel are expected to attend the event in Milwaukee from Monday, July 15, until Thursday, July 18. Just four days before the convention, the presumptive Republican nominee former President Donald Trump, who will be officially announced as the party’s candidate that day, is also scheduled for a sentencing hearing in New York on July 11.

Whatley said the “vision for America” that will be presented at the convention will be “overwhelmingly positive” and that the party was “really excited” about presenting Trump as its nominee going forward.

Stirewalt noted that in 2020, the party did not do so well in outlining a specific platform for voters as its views shifted after Trump was elected in 2016 and served a full term. Prior to Trump, the party differed on various issues, from the Ukraine war to generally supporting a 20-week abortion ban.

Whatley said the platform will be “pro-America,” “pro-life,” and “pro-economy,” although he did not go into specifics. The chairman promised a convention and platform that will “be fantastic across the board” and that he thinks everybody will “be happy with it.”

The convention will take place in Wisconsin, which is expected to play a pivotal role in the election as a battleground state. In 2016, Trump won the state, but in 2020 he narrowly lost it by around 20,000 votes to President Joe Biden. A recent poll shows Biden maintains a slight lead over the former president by roughly 0.1 percentage points.

The two candidates will most likely face off in a rematch, although there are serious doubts about whether or not Biden will stay in the race after his poor first debate performance against Trump last month. A second debate is scheduled for Sept. 10.
