(ConservativeSense.com) – President Joe Biden and his administration have quietly announced indefinite secrecy for particular records related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and Kennedy’s nephew is firing back at the White House decision.
Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted a scathing rant on Twitter over the weekend in response to what he describes as “a midnight Friday night announcement” by the White House that some records relating to the assassination of JFK will remain secret indefinitely.
According to the memorandum released by the White House last Friday, “the continued postponement” of the information is “to protect against identifiable harms” that could affect the military, intelligence, law enforcement, and foreign relations. The document claims these potential dangers “outweigh the public interest in disclosure.”
Kennedy Jr. said that the subject of his uncle’s assassination is “not about conspiracy” but “transparency” and restoring “public trust” in the government, which he says is “at an all-time low.” He said releasing the records would only be a small step toward this, but a “significant” one.
The Democratic presidential candidate pointed out how the killing of his uncle “was 60 years ago” and questioned what secrets could put national security at risk from so long ago. “What are they hiding?” he asked. He also called the announcement illegal,” according to an act passed by Congress in 1992 that promised all records related to the assassination would be released to the public by October 2017.
Kennedy Jr. recently made an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast and was asked about the subject of his uncle’s assassination by Rogan. The presidential candidate has spoken before about his belief that the CIA had a hand in murdering JFK and possibly his father, Bobby Kennedy, although with shakier evidence.
Rogan asked Kennedy Jr. if he was concerned about possible threats to his own life by the CIA, to which Kennedy Jr. responded that he was “aware of that danger” but doesn’t “live in fear of it.”
