(ConservativeSense.com) – On the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade court decision that was overturned last year, protesters marked the occasion by gathering outside the residence of SCOTUS Justice Brett Kavanaugh, just a few months after a failed attempted assassination of Kavanaugh.
Gathering in the rain on the sidewalk outside Kavanaugh’s home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, protesters waved signs stating “abortion is healthcare” and “our rights are not up for debate.” They also chanted slogans, such as “cut his time short, a rapist should not rule the court,” according to a reporter with The Daily Signal who captured footage of the event and shared it on Twitter.
Several law enforcement officers protected Kavanaugh’s property. This isn’t the first time protesters have gathered outside the SCOTUS Justice’s home, which also happened after a draft of the Supreme Court’s position that Roe v. Wade may be overturned leaked to the press last year.
The protest seems to have been organized by a group called DC Abortion Fund. The group shared a poster on Twitter calling for people to attend a march in the neighborhoods of Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts, as well as a fundraising concert.
In 2018, Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault by Christine Blasey Ford, which made international headlines and rallied support from the #MeToo Movement. He and Ford were asked to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the FBI eventually dismissed the case. A few other women also came forward with allegations. Despite no proof of his guilt, Kavanaugh was universally condemned by many, and his reputation was smeared by the proceedings.
Last June, in response to the Roe v. Wade controversy, a California man attempted to assassinate Kavanaugh, which was mostly ignored by the media and even the White House. The deranged man turned himself in before carrying out his plot and had a hit list including other justices.
