Pelosi Attacker’s Imprisoned Life Partner Reveals All

( – The Department of Justice (DOJ) charged David DePape with one count of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and one count of impeding or influencing a federal official by retaliation against, threatening, or injuring a family member for his alleged attack on Paul Pelosi in the early morning hours of Friday, October 28. The DOJ revealed the federal criminal complaint on Monday, October 31. Since the attack, media outlets have scrambled to understand the man and his motive. Many people in DePape’s life have come forward to tell his story, including Oxane “Gypsy” Taub, who some describe as his life partner.

Taub, currently incarcerated in the California Institution for Women in Corona on a kidnapping charge, told the San Francisco Chronicle she met DePape in Hawaii in 2000, and the two carried on a relationship until 2015. Taub characterized the father of her two sons as “a broken child in an adult body with serious mental problems.” She said he was unsuccessful at holding a job, experienced frequent homelessness, and that mental illness and drug use had caused such deterioration that he believed he was “Jesus for a year” starting in late 2010.

Still, Taub said when she knew DePape, he was painfully shy and politically naive but supported her causes, including nudism. Inti Gonzales, Taub’s daughter, described DePape as a stepfather but also alluded to his mental illness, saying, “the monster in him was always too strong for him to be safe to be around.” Unlike her mother, she maintained loose contact with DePape after 2015. In response to a question from the San Francisco Chronicle, Gonzales texted how her stepfather had “never mentioned” Nancy Pelosi to her.

In addition to the federal charges, DePape also faces state charges of elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and residential burglary. Before his arraignment on state charges on Tuesday, November 1, authorities held the suspect in the locked psychiatric ward of San Francisco General Hospital. After the arraignment, the court remanded him to the custody of the San Francisco jail without bail.
