(ConservativeSense.com) – The number of children identifying as “non-binary” is exploding in American schools. For example, state enrollment data from New Jersey shows that from 2019 to 2020, only 16 kids claimed this as their identity. By 2022 to 2023, this had risen to 675 – an increase of more than 4,000%. The figures are released as liberal politicians in the state attempt to make it harder for parents to participate in their child’s life or be involved in discussions surrounding their “identity.”
When officials at the Hanover Township school district in Morris County introduced a policy of informing parents if their child assumed a radical gender identity, state officials sued them. Democrat Governor Jim Murphy said, “Hanover Township Board of Education’s new policy requiring staff to ‘out’ LGBTQ students to their parents violates the rights of our students—jeopardizing their well-being and mental health.”
A judge in Morris County has since accepted the state government’s position and ordered that the two sides to sit down and rewrite the school board’s policies and adopt a compromise.
Erika Sanzi of the organization Parents Defending Education said this comes as no surprise to her. She says the entire educational system is swamped in radical gender ideology and children are adopting these identities due to social contagion. Sanzi claims that socially awkward kids adopt the labels because it makes them “cool” and provides them with a reason to be celebrated.
The rising trend in non-binary identities is occurring across the United States and experts warn that this will likely continue. A 2017 study found that just above 1% of American school-goers identified as non-binary. By 2021, the figure was 10%.
The founder of NJ Fresh Faced Schools Nicole Stouffer said the issue is significant as it speaks to young people’s mental health. She also warns that the percentages identifying as one of the radical left’s long list of identities will continue to increase for as long as gender ideology is prevalent in educational institutions.
