NYC Mayor Latest to Raise Alarm About Illegal Immigrants

( – The Mayor of New York City Eric Adams (D) has warned that he may need to cut services for taxpaying New Yorkers to help growing numbers of illegal immigrants.

Adams joins fellow Democrats Gavin Newsom of California and Michael Hancock, Mayor of Denver, who have both recently said they can no longer cope with the huge influx of newcomers streaming across the border.

Like other Democrats, Adams has loudly pushed for open borders in the past and declared New York a ‘sanctuary city’. On his Twitter account in 2021, he wrote, “New York City is, and has always been, a City of immigrants. We are a destination for diversity and a place where people from every nation seek refuge, raise families, and enrich our communities. Under my administration, our government will reflect that”.

Just over a year later, the New York Mayor declared a state of emergency following an influx of asylum seekers. He complained that 10,000s of migrants were being bussed to New York with no notice or any plans in place on how to take care of them. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been sending migrants to New York and other self-declared ‘sanctuary cities’ including Chicago and Washington, D.C. to drive home to open border advocates the reality of the situation and force them to deal with the consequences.

New York already had around 61,000 people in its homelessness shelters and the pressure on these and other resources continues to rise as the southern border is breached daily.

In a statement issued by his office on December 18th, Adams said he needs help from the federal government, which he accuses of ignoring him. He warned New Yorkers that now he will have to cut the services that they pay for. “I refuse to be forced to choose new arrivals over current New Yorkers”, he said.
