(ConservativeSense.com) – Before a crowd in Iowa on Monday, former North Carolina Governor and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley once again criticized President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump for being too old.
While speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa and in response to a question from the audience as to why voters who supported Trump should vote for her instead, Haley brought up the former and current president’s age, stating that “you [don’t] have to be 80 years old to be in DC,” which received a round of applause.
Haley went on to say that although she was proud of working for Trump’s administration, the situation in the U.S. is “dire” and that “we need to leave the status quo in the past” and “look forward.”
Haley is 51 years old, and although she’s no spring chicken herself, both Biden (80) and Trump (76) have almost 30 years on her, of which she loves reminding her potential voters.
Last week, Haley officially announced her campaign for the GOP nomination in the 2024 presidential election, calling for “a new generation of leadership.”
Not everyone is buying her play, of course—especially not Democrats. Last week, Don Lemon stated on CNN that Haley was “not in her prime” anymore, which received backlash with accusations of sexism and ageism leading to his apology and a brief hiatus. Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of “The View”, also criticized Haley touting her age, saying she’s “not a new generation” at 51 years old.
If age is the only thing Haley has to run on, she may be forgetting that her most formidable opponent and the biggest potential challenger to Trump for the GOP nomination will probably be Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is only 44. DeSantis recently hinted that he will soon make a decision on running for the White House.
