(ConservativeSense.com) – Four senior FBI and IRS officials were subpoenaed by House Republicans on Monday for allegedly overhearing David Weiss, the Delaware U.S. Attorney at the time, state that he wouldn’t be given special counsel authority over the Hunter Biden investigation and was restricted from charging the first son outside of the state of Delaware.
The officials subpoenaed are FBI special agents Thomas J. Sobocinski and Ryeshia Holley, along with IRS field operations director Michael T. Batdorf and IRS special agent Darrell J. Waldon. The House Judiciary Committee and Ways and Means Committee are compelling these agents to submit testimony about the October 7, 2022, meeting at which Weiss made his claim.
A statement was issued by Montana Republican Jason Smith, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. In it, he said that their committees, along with the Oversight and Accountability Committee, have tried to obtain interviews with these agents ever since IRS whistleblowers alleged political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation regarding foreign deals and tax evasion.
Smith added that the Biden administration unfortunately… has consistently stonewalled Congress and that their “duty is to follow the facts,” which means having to compel testimony from officials that is “crucial to understanding” how Hunter Biden “received special treatment” from prosecutors as well as “who was the ultimate decision maker” in the first son’s case.
In June, House Republicans requested the officials appear before Congress and face questioning, and they even threatened to impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland if he prevented them from testifying.
The testimony from IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley was also contradicted by statements from Garland, who claimed Weiss had “ultimate” authority over the case and to charge the first son. Special Agent Waldon, who is Shapley’s boss, confirmed that Weiss didn’t have such authority.
In an email from Shapley to Waldon, he said that Weiss will not decide “whether charges are filed,” which he called “a huge problem” and “inconsistent” with Garland’s testimony.
