(ConservativeSense.com) – Next week, House Republicans will vote on legislation to prevent biological males from competing in female sports at universities, colleges, and public schools nationwide.
Introduced by Florida GOP Rep. Greg Steube, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act will ban biological males, specifically males who identify as trans-women, from competing against females in school sports. Steube said males have “no place” competing against females and that it’s time lawmakers “save women’s sports.”
Across the country, a controversial debate rages over the rights of those who identify as “transgender” and whether or not those rights should include access to spaces that correspond with their stated “gender identity.” Although gender ideology is something impacting both men and women, the effects of it have a disproportionately negative impact on women when men are allowed to not only compete against them in sports but also access their private spaces such as locker rooms and bathrooms.
Trans radical activists are also becoming more emboldened toward using force against their perceived political enemies. Riley Gaines, an NCAA champion swimmer and spokesperson for the Independent Women’s Forum, was assaulted last week at San Francisco University by protesters during a speaking event where she presented her argument as to why male athletes should not be allowed to compete against women.
“As an athlete who has experienced the injustice of competing against a male firsthand,” Gaines said, referring to racing against trans swimmer Lia Thomas, “I’m grateful for the leadership of Representative Steube.” She said Steube “has made it clear that he will fight for fairness, privacy, and safety for girls and women in sports.”
According to the bill, any educational institution receiving Title IX federal government funds will not be permitted to allow “a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designed for women or girls.”
The bill states that an athlete’s sex will only be recognized according to their “reproductive biology and genetics at birth.” It will allow trans athletes to train or practice in a female athletic program only under the condition that no female is deprived of a roster spot in the program.
