15+ Million Respond to Elon Musk’s Inquiry About Trump

( – Anyone who’s followed tech entrepreneur Elon Musk on social media, especially Twitter, knows he loves his polls. In November 2021, he famously asked the Twitterverse whether he should sell enough Tesla stock to cover his tax bill for 2021. On Friday evening, November 18, Musk shared another poll asking yes or no to one simple premise: “Reinstate former President Trump.” By Saturday morning, more than 8.4 million users had responded.

Ultimately, more than 15 million people answered the poll, and some 7.8 million respondents, or 51.8%, said yes. On Saturday evening, Musk tweeted he was reinstating Trump because the people had spoken. He used a Latin phrase meaning the voice of the people becomes the voice of God.

Yet, on Monday, former President Donald Trump said he preferred to stay with the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) startup, Truth Social, his proprietary platform. Forbes revealed in May the ex-POTUS entered into a “Social Media Exclusivity Term,” requiring him to post on Truth first with a six-hour lead before posting the same content on any other social media site. The agreement excludes political messaging, fundraising, and encouraging people to vote, which Trump can post at any time on any platform.

Still, can the previous commander-in-chief resist the siren call of Twitter and his over 88 million previous followers for long? Conservative users on the platform have made it clear they would like to see him back. Liberal posters have been just as clear about their feelings.

With the 2024 election cycle just starting to crank up, can Trump really afford to ignore Musk’s giant platform?
