Rand Paul Wins 3rd Term in Landslide Victory

(ConservativeSense.com) – If words like independent, unorthodox, and unafraid to forge new paths describe a maverick, then most would agree these same terms and qualities apply to Senator Rand Paul (R-KY). He burst onto the Congressional scene during the 2010 Tea Party midterm election when Republicans gained seven Senate seats and 63 House seats. On Tuesday, November 8, Paul easily won a third term against Democratic challenger Charles Booker in a landslide victory with more than a 23-point spread.

Echoes of Paul’s libertarian beliefs rang through in his victory acceptance speech, declaring people unite through government to preserve freedom. “Our desire is not to rule over others but to largely leave people alone,” he insisted.

Fighting excessive spending, balancing the federal budget, safeguarding privacy and civil liberties, and investigating government overreach are all items on Paul’s agenda should the GOP take the Senate. One hot-button issue for the senator are the origins and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and, specifically, the actions and recommendations of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Yet, GOP control of the Senate could provide Paul with a difficult choice given the number of seasoned Republicans leaving their seats: lead the Senate Health Committee or take over the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. In either position, the Kentuckian would follow the beat of his own drummer, sometimes alienating even his own party. “I’ve never really seen things in terms of party. I see things in terms of right and wrong,” Paul told AP News.
