Lawmaker Calls On VP To Invoke 25th Amendment Against Biden

(ConservativeSense.com) – Republican Rep. Nancy Mace is encouraging Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment and force President Joe Biden out of office. On X, previously known as Twitter, the South Carolina lawmaker wrote that Biden lacks the “cognitive ability” to see out his term in office and revealed that she would be introducing a resolution pushing Harris to take action. She later told a reporters, “If you’re unable to run for reelection, you’re unable to run the country.”

Mace argues Biden now represents a national security risk to America and raised the possibility of using the 25th Amendment to oust him. The Amendment allows the Vice President and Cabinet to declare the President “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office” and pass Presidential powers to the Vice President.

When the President declared his intention to withdraw from the 2024 race, he stated that he would focus instead on completing his Presidency, prompting Republican protests. House Speaker Mike Johnson insisted that if Biden is not fit to run for office, he is likewise unfit to stay in office. High-profile New York Rep. Elise Stefanik made similar remarks, saying, “He must immediately resign.” Donald Trump echoed those sentiments on social media, arguing that Biden was “not fit to serve from the very beginning.”

Forcefully removing a President via the implementation of the 25th Amendment has never before happened in American history. In practice, the Amendment states that most of the Cabinet must write to Congress declaring the President unfit. A second formal letter is sent to the House Speaker and the President Pro Tempore, and powers are formally transferred to the Vice President.

Some Democrats have also called on Biden to step aside, including former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, who said the President should allow Kamala Harris to gain Presidential experience before the November election, thereby increasing her chances of winning. Democrats have largely supported Biden’s decision not to run in November and rallied around Kamala Harris. She has won the endorsement of several senior figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
