(ConservativeSense.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris disputed the claim that Democrats support abortion through all nine months of pregnancy but refused to say at what stage abortion should be restricted, the New York Post reported.
While appearing on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” with host Margaret Brennan on Sunday, Harris described the claim as “ridiculous” and a “mischaracterization” of the Democrat Party’s position on abortion.
Harris argued that Congress must enact legislation codifying Roe v. Wade, explaining that it is up to Congress to take the country “back to where we were before the Dobbs decision.”
Brennan repeatedly questioned the vice president about what such legislation would mean, noting that Roe v. Wade allowed for restrictions on abortions after 20 to 24 weeks of pregnancy.
However, Harris flatly disagreed with placing restrictions on abortion, arguing that Congress must “put back the protections that are in Roe v. Wade.” She said this isn’t “something new” and argued that “the vast majority” of Americans agree with her.
This is untrue. In poll after poll, the vast majority of Americans support restrictions on abortion.
According to the Washington Examiner, Democrats attempted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would have permitted abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. The measure failed in a 51-49 vote in the US Senate, with West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin joining Republicans in voting against the bill.
While Harris claims that it is “ridiculous” that Democrats support unrestricted abortion, in reality, seven states and the District of Columbia permit abortion through all three trimesters without restrictions, according to the Washington Examiner.
Vice President Harris also assured Margaret Brennan that she and Biden would win reelection in 2024.
When asked to comment on warnings from Republican presidential candidates that a vote for Biden is, in reality, a vote for Harris, the vice president dismissed the warnings as “nothing new” and said that she is ready to be president if needed, but added that President Biden “is going to be fine.”
