(ConservativeSense.com) – Ohio Senator JD Vance has accepted the GOP Vice Presidential candidacy. Former President Donald Trump announced Vance’s selection on social media just hours before the Republican National Convention got underway in Milwaukee. Senator Vance told the GOP crowd that he was “overwhelmed with gratitude” as he formally accepted the nomination. The Senator went on to describe himself as a “working-class boy” and emphasized his focus on working people and fighting in their interests rather than those of multinational corporations.
Vance went on the attack and said Democrats had opened the southern border and “flooded the country with illegal immigrants.” He also attacked China, blaming the communist nation for the influx of the deadly drug Fentanyl on American streets.
The two men appeared together for the first time at a political rally when Trump returned to the campaign trail with a rally in Michigan. Speaking in Grand Rapids, Trump said he “took a bullet for democracy” and accused the Democrats of uncertainty about who their contender will be in November. “They don’t know who their candidate is, and neither do we,” he said.
President Joe Biden later announced his withdrawal from the race and offered his endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris. Reports indicate that Biden is not alone in backing the Vice President, as Democrat donors rally behind her. Insiders say the Democratic base is excited by the prospect of a Harris candidacy, and the Democratic fundraising organization ActBlue reported that the Vice President raised more than $47 million in just seven hours after Biden announced his withdrawal.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has likewise thrown his weight behind Harris, as well as former President Bill Clinton and former Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Despite those high profile endorsements, analysts say Harris is missing a crucial backer in Barack Obama, who called for a “process” from which his party’s Presidential candidate can emerge.
