Israeli Soccer Star Investigated For Honoring Hamas Hostages

( – An Israeli soccer star is being investigated for “inciting hatred” after he expressed support for his country’s war against Hamas. Sagiv Jehezkel pointed to his watch, which read “100 days. 7.10,” during a game in the Turkish Super Lig, and the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office later said the gesture was worthy of a criminal investigation. “100 days. 7.10” refers to the date that Hamas launched a deadly terror attack on Israeli civilians, which took place 100 days before.

Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc described Mr. Jehezkel’s actions as an “ugly gesture” and said he would be investigated for “inciting people to hatred and hostility.” He added his country’s condemnation of the Israeli “genocide” in Gaza and said, “We will always continue to stand by the oppressed Palestinians.”

Turkey has fiercely condemned Israel’s response to the attack on its civilians on October 7 and accused the Jewish state of committing “the most treacherous attacks in human history” while enjoying “unlimited” Western support. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel’s leaders of war crimes and called for them to be held accountable at the International Court of Justice.

Speaking in the Turkish Parliament in November, Erdogan condemned Western labeling of Hamas as a terrorist organization and insisted it is a legitimately elected political party. Israel, on the other hand, is a terrorist state, he claimed.

Referring to the United States and Western Israeli allies, Mr. Erdogan added, “While we curse the Israeli administration, we do not forget those who openly support these massacres and those who go out of their way to legitimize them.”

The message was similar from Muslim countries throughout the Middle East. The conflict even brought together arch-rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia at a summit in Riyadh a month after the attack, where they joined 50 other Arab or Muslim countries to collectively condemn the Jewish state for its “aggressive” response.

The group called on the United Nations to condemn Israel and deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
