(ConservativeSense.com) – GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is taking a hard-line stance on mask mandates, stating that his state will never return to such policies under his watch as other localities across the country begin reconsidering it.
In an announcement on August 24, Abbot said that “there will be NO mask mandates” in the Lone Star State. Executive orders have been issued by the governor that will bar any local governments from encroaching on the “individual liberties” of Texans, according to a press release from Abbott’s office. The purpose of the executive orders is to “protect Texans” from the mandates, including vaccine mandates, and to prevent business and school closures.
The 2020 pandemic resulted in widespread draconian policies, including lockdowns, which ordered various establishments closed and citizens to stay home in an attempt to slow the spread of a respiratory virus. Despite the federal government’s recommendation, face coverings were shown to be mostly ineffective in stopping the spread, and even the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eventually had to admit masks weren’t doing anything.
A May 2020 study concluded that there was no evidence that “surgical-type face masks” reduced “laboratory-confirmed influenza transmission,” and another study a year later found that mandating masks had no association with “lower SARS-CoV-2 spread among U.S. states.” The results even showed a net negative from masking, which increased dehydration, headaches, sweating, and decreased “cognitive precision.”
Over the last couple of weeks, some hospitals, businesses, and schools have resurrected mask mandates after the federal government admitted that current vaccines may not be effective against new variants of the virus.
The news of some places bringing back masks prompted widespread speculation that lockdowns and mandates could be returning nationwide. This is why Texas is getting ahead of the curve by putting protections in place to make sure the suspension of civil liberties cannot happen again.
