(ConservativeSense.com) – Another rioter who clashed with Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) last Thursday.
Curtis Logan Tate was arrested in North Carolina and was known to “Sedition Hunters” online as “ShinyCircleTattoo,” referring to a tattoo on Tate’s hand in photographs. Sedition Hunters are hobbyists who track down people who were at the Capitol on Jan. 6, either inside the building or just outside of it, in order to report them to the FBI.
Tate faces multiple charges, including assault on federal officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon and doing so during civil disorder, both of which are felony charges. The complaint and arrest warrant provided multiple pieces of evidence, including photographic and video evidence, showing that Tate used various objects to assault law enforcement officers at the Capitol building. Tate used everything from a baton, shoe, and floor lamp to a broken table leg and a speaker box to strike police officers.
According to an affidavit, the FBI interviewed Tate on January 13, 2021, just a few days after the Capitol riot. Tate insisted to them that he didn’t commit any violent acts and disagreed with those who were destroying and breaking things. Although not arrested, Tate later appeared in images posted to the FBI’s website in the Capitol Violence section of their most wanted list. The FBI asked the public to help identify who committed assault on Capitol Police officers.
Additional evidence was obtained about Tate after his FBI interview. This evidence includes facial recognition analysis, online tips, interviews with police officers assaulted, and video and images that show Tate participated in the assault of several officers, interfered with their enforcement of the law, and destroyed Capitol property.
An article was also published by USA Today in March of this year in which Tate was interviewed as one of over 100 individuals identified on the FBI website but never arrested. Tate acknowledged he was the person pictured on the website but maintained he “never, ever once hurt” or put his hands “on an officer.”
So far, around 1,100 suspects have been arrested in connection with the events of Jan. 6, some of whom have already been sentenced.
