DeSantis: Border Cartels Require Force, Not Just Rhetoric

( – A member of the Trump administration has called for action at the border and said Ron DeSantis is right about the tough approach he wants to take. Ken Cuccinelli, who served in the Department of Homeland Security under President Trump, agrees with DeSantis that deadly force is required. As things stand, the drug cartels south of the border are acting with impunity, and America is becoming lawless, Cuccinelli said.

During the Biden administration, more than 9 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States. The southern border is also the main smuggling point for lethal narcotics, including fentanyl, which killed over 100,000 Americans last year. Cuccinelli has pointed out that cartels are making billions from drug and people trafficking, and they will not be deterred by “campaign slogans” or the weakness of recent years. They will only respond to brute force, he argues.

Floridian Governor DeSantis is the only candidate among the expansive GOP field that has promised drug and people traffickers will be killed under his administration. He restated his promise in August at an event in Atlanta, saying, “We are going to authorize the use of deadly force against the cartels. We’re not putting up with it anymore.”

DeSantis formally launched his presidential campaign in May and has experienced several difficulties. His launch on Twitter was beset with technical problems, and he made a misstep with what many saw as a bizarre video attacking Trump’s position on transgenderism that lost some support. While he tried to avoid conflict with Donald Trump in the early stages, he has recently lashed out at the former president, particularly regarding his response to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a recent interview, DeSantis called on Trump to explain who awarded a commendation to Dr. Antony Fauci. Now increasingly unpopular, Fauci led the US response to the crisis and was awarded a presidential commendation, which Trump denies knowledge of. “Give me a break; people need to take responsibility for their actions,” DeSantis said.
