Democrats Demand Social Media Censorship

( – A number of Democrats appear to be panicking as pro-left-wing censorship on Twitter comes to an end. The new owner of the social media giant Elon Musk has promised to stop political partiality on the platform and has exposed biased communications that led to the exclusion of President Donald Trump.

Now a group of Congress members has written to Meta, the company that owns Facebook, requesting reassurance that it will continue to promote left-wing politics. Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif), Andre Carson (D-Ind.), Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I) wrote: “We write to urge Meta to maintain its commitment to keeping dangerous and unfounded [election den***] content off its platform. To that end, we also urge Meta and its leadership to continue the suspension of former President Donald Trump’s Facebook account.”

Trump was banned from both Facebook and Twitter in 2021 but has since had his Twitter account reinstated by Elon Musk.

The letter, written on paper headed ‘Congress of the United States’, asked not only that Donald Trump remain suspended, but that anyone who questions the election of 2020 also be shut down.

This is not the first time Democrats have made such demands. In a similar letter in 2021, Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney, both from California, contacted several major companies, including Amazon and Apple, urging them not to host Fox News.

In 2020, in the run-up to the Presidential election, Joe Biden wrote to Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg asking him to “fact-check” politicians” ads on the platform in the weeks immediately preceding election day.

Political messages at election time are exempt from Facebook’s “fact-checking” processes but Biden wanted this to stop. In response, the platform issued a statement saying “We live in a democracy, where the elected officials decide the rules around campaigns.”
