(ConservativeSense.com) – New York City Mayor Eric Adams accused Texas Governor Greg Abbott of targeting “Black-run cities” by sending migrants on buses.
A week prior, Adams complained to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) about other cities sending migrants to NYC using federal emergency funds, requesting that the agency do something to stop it.
Now, the mayor of New York City is criticizing the governor of Texas directly, claiming he is targeting cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and other cities governed by black mayors.
Adams tweeted about the issue on Monday, stating that Abbot is playing politics “with people’s lives” by continuing to send asylum seekers on buses not only into New York but also into Los Angeles, Denver, D.C., and Chicago. The NYC Mayor described such behavior as “morally bankrupt” as well as “devoid of any concern” for the asylum seekers’ well-being.
Adams also said that it was “impossible” to ignore that the Texas governor is aiming at cities specifically governed by mayors who are Black, accusing him of using the migrant situation to “hurt” these five cities.
Last fall, Abbot began responding to the crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border by sending migrants out of Texas to “sanctuary cities” run by Democrats. The Texas governor said he won’t stop doing it until the Biden administration does something to secure the border. Adams himself is also upset with the White House, accusing the national government of turning its back on NYC.
Adams also said the Texas governor was putting the migrants on buses “against their will,” and that security guards are holding migrants “hostage” on the buses when they attempt to get off in another city. He also said Abbot “tagged” migrants with barcodes and sent some of them away who were sick at the time.
Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago who will soon be leaving office, also pleaded with Abbot to stop busing migrants into her city.
