(ConservativeSense.com) – Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy is calling for the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to be defunded until major changes are made to the agencies, which he says are being weaponized by President Joe Biden and his administration against their political enemies.
Roy appeared on “Fox News Sunday” and told the host that he “will not vote for a continuing resolution or any funding” for both the DOJ and DHS if there aren’t “changes to both.”
The congressman then demanded that the south border be secured and that the DOJ return “to following the rule of law.” Roy is calling on the rest of Congress to “use the power of the purse” as “the most powerful weapon against” an executive branch that is “overly tyrannical,” citing James Madison’s Federalist Papers.
Roy says the American people “are funding a bureaucracy… at odds” with them. He goes on to list the DHS that won’t secure the border, the DOJ that won’t enforce the law, and the Department of Defense (DOD) that spends more time and resources on “woke” ideology and “having social engineering wrapped in a uniform” than protecting the country.
The congressman also pointed out the U.S. credit rating downgrade and criticized reckless spending by the government, which he said should be dropped back down to pre-pandemic levels to get the country “on a path to actual fiscal sanity.”
Finally, Roy opposed the DOJ’s actions against former President Donald Trump and repudiated the agency for targeting a former president, which he said should never happen. Trump was indicted last week on a third set of charges related to the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot. Trump’s poll numbers seem to only rise with each new condemnation, and many Americans seem to be losing faith in the DOJ, especially the FBI.
