(ConservativeSense.com) – Illinois’s Democratic Governor JB Pritzker is considering allowing illegal immigrants to become cops. Democrats enjoy supermajorities in the Illinois state legislature, and last month, they passed laws permitting illegal migrants enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to join law enforcement agencies.
A summary of the legislation states, “An individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services under the DACA process is allowed to apply for the position of police officer, deputy sheriff, or special policeman.”
If Pritzker signs the legislation, Illinois will be the second state to allow illegal migrants to become enforcers of the law. Last year, Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom signed SB 960, which permitted border crossers to become cops, changing the rules that officers must be citizens or green card holders who have applied for citizenship. According to the new regulations, migrants can become police officers by obtaining work permits. Such permits are handed out to unvetted migrants regularly, and as many as 1.4 million were distributed last year.
Both Illinois and California are “sanctuary” states, meaning they do not enforce immigration laws and do not cooperate with federal immigration agencies. In the Golden State, Gavin Newsom provides illegal immigrants with free healthcare, and in 2022, he allowed border crossers to apply for Californian identification cards.
In Illinois, migrants can obtain driver’s licenses and healthcare, and it is illegal for landlords to refuse to rent property to them, regardless of their legal status. In May, protests erupted in Chicago as many people from poorer areas questioned why the city could afford to open its doors to thousands of migrants while they remained underfunded. The protestors, who were mostly black, said the arrival of more than 200 migrants per day had a significant impact on their area and decreased their political influence. One resident described the influx as “an effort to destroy our neighborhoods and silence our voices even further.”
